Default Bunkatabunka Raritan Bay report 5/1

Here's an honest report.

Went out 4/30 and 5/1 in search of bass. Report for both days: it sucked bad. Circumnavigated the entire bay only to come up empty handed. Trolled the mojos burning up a ton of gas with not so much as a bump, not even a bluefish. Would have tried bunker, except there were none to be found in all the usual places. The bay was like a dead sea. NJ side, NY side, didn't matter. Even tried up the Kill with the same crap results.

We did mark fish in shallower water (15-20 ft) both days on the NJ side, 4/30 more than 5/1, but got skunked anyway. Tried the stretches instead of the mojos, nope. Casted plugs, shads, nope. Zero surface action, zero bait. Ton of boats on Sunday, but didn't see anyone reaching for the net one time...and believe me I was watching in boredom.

Brutally honest report and very frustrating to say the least. Much different than a week and a half ago. Hoping something changes and soon. Good luck.

There was a lot of rain Sunday morning. The bay was brown when I showed up at 8:00. I think all that fresh water coming in really shut things down. With luck and a few days, things should return to normal. God luck out there

By the reports I'm reading I think you caught them all. People act like there is a never ending supply of fish. If you want to know where all the striped bass are, check everyone's freezer.
