Default Stokes Forest and the Big Flat Brook

Camped at stokes wed. night. Fished shotwell pond, stony lake, and the Big Flat Brook. Caught 1 small largemouth In Stony lake on an aglia. Sort of caught one rainbow at the BFB. It was swimming around dragging a weird floating device with a length of line which I was able to snag and reel in. Cut the line close as possible and let go. Looked like it has some sort of bead head spinner thing deep in the throat. Cookie cutter 9 - 10 inches. Lots of large trout in the one pool that had any depth. those trouties wouldn't take any of my lures. Picked up a bag full of assorted highway debris\garbage in the rain close to 206 on the way out. Pretty water just not much of it. Stopped at GYPS and saw some trout in kittitany lake as well.

.

Beautiful area.
I never had much luck fishing in that area until I found a little roadside pond next to the Big Flatbrook that someone (fish & game?) stocked with Largemouth Bass. After that, I still wasn't catching many trout but I was catching a lot of bass!

Then one summer the local migrant-laborers discovered the pond and reduced it to nothing more than a weedy pond full of stunted sunfish within two summers. But that's life in New Jersey.

Thumbs up Re: Stokes Forest and the Big Flat Brook

Pretty cool. Thanx for grabbing the trash and leaving it better than you found it. What is that, a collapsed bridge...location ??

Andy

That wrecked bridge is off flatbrook rd. Right off rte 206 north in sandyston. Think Irene did it in. Stony brook bridge is out of service in stokes now as well due to undermining caused by Irene according to state park staff.

Those trout are always in that pool. Teenie midges and very fine fluro leader would definitely raise some fish.
