Default You Never Stop Learning

Today I spent all morning at my new favorite pond in search of big fish. I brought along an arsenal of big lures to try and weed through the smaller ones. In 3 hours I only managed 4 bass, none approaching a pound, including one bass that was no bigger than the saltwater spook he hit. I regrouped with some spinning gear and managed four more small fish before the afternoon heat started to take its toll, and I called it quits.

Since I discovered it earlier this year, this pond has been as close to a sure bet as there is. Today was the first time I really struggled there. I guess there's no such thing as a sure thing, after all. No matter how stuffed with fish a body of water is, not paying attention to factors such as weather, water temps, and the mood of the fish, will ALWAYS result in failure (or at least diminished success). Never take anything in fishing for granted. It was a lesson I re-learned the hard way today.

I get spanked all the time. Case in point: Fished a small lake yesterday that ALWAYS produces decent bass & pickerel. As I arrived, the skies opened up which was perfect. Post rain fishing can be the best time. Waited 20 minutes, skies sort of cleared and I had the 20 acre lake to myself. Results after 2.5 hrs? Nada - not even a hit. I think I saw one sunfish the whole time. I walked back to my car literally talking to myself using the f word several times - as in "unf*cking believable" and "this is f*cking bs". I always have high expectations and I don't take getting shutout well
