Default NJF&W Kudos

In among the stocked rainbows, I was surprised to catch six Brook Trout from 5-10 inches on the Musky. I've caught them before this but not in these numbers. I usually try to fish away from the stocking points so, needless to say, these fish were " back in the woods". I did catch one close to the car and I saw one other fisherman catch a few in a pool near the road. Looking back at last year's decision not to stock any of the hatchery's diseased brook trout in trout production waters was very prudent. Kudos to the Division and its biologists for their management plan.

Since there are relatively few wild rainbows, this should be the plan going forward in the better trout production streams. No doubt places like the Upper South Branch would be better off.

I took this pic a week or so ago. Sorry, Andy. I don't have anymore pictures, but it doesn't mean you can't go out and CPR your own.

That's is a sweet stream bred Jerzy "brookie". I wasn't aware they were present and reproducing in the Musky. Sure it's not a club fish? Either way, very nice!

Present but not reproducing. That would be taking place in the rivers tribs. River has about 10-15 tribs that hold native brookies and a few with wild browns. Most flow in along the Hunterdon-Warren border.
