Thumbs up West Branch Delaware river 10/9-10/10 2015:

Day 1:
Did a float trip with Wilson on the West Branch of the Delaware river. The guide gets us on the water EARLY up by the town of Deposit. While the guide is prepping the boat Wilson walks down to the waters edge and nails a nice brown trout on the 2nd cast !!! Water was funky because of the releases from Cannonsville Reservoir, a sort of grayish green color to it with some gnarly chunks of algae mixed in. Off we went in the heavy overcast, drizzly weather. Didn't take long before we started nailing some nice fish. We had a steady pick of fish the entire float trip. I think Wilson and I each managed to bring at least 12 or so fish to the net, while swinging and missing triple the amount of fish. Water temps are all over the place too with the release from the reservoir, the water actually felt warm to the touch. Majority of fish hooked went totally ballistic jumping all over the place. Didn't stop to each lunch riverside as we knew the skies were bound to open up at any moment, and they did just that 30 minutes after we got of the river. Wilson even got 2 small walleye on spinners !! Brightly colored browns we aptly named "pumpkin trout"
Day 2:
Fished off the banks on the West branch in Deposit for a bit, Wilson got a few nice ones and I managed 1 solid fish. He split for home stopping at the Beaverkill and I went the other direction down along the main stem of the Big D. Stopped in at Callicoon where the water was gin clear and cold, nice ! Managed a couple of nice rainbow trout there and then headed home.
Good 2 days of fishing.

One of our better trips with a rare float on the West Branch...... sans the snoring

The fish were feisty without a doubt, don't think we caught one that didn't jump at least twice if not more. I dropped more than I landed and I landed quite a few.

Beautiful colors and tons of Eagles, Ospreys Herons and unfortunately Geese.
