![]() I have a 2 stroke OB motor and upon the recommendation of many, I throw a little additive in the gas to protect the motor from the ethanol.
I've wound up with a fairly large bottle of Star Tron and another of Marine Stabil. Would there be any benefit from mixing the two, and more importantly could be mixing them be detrimental? |

![]() Good question. Sometimes to save about a buck and a half a gallon I haul my gas from Costco down about 60 feet of stairs to my boat and add Startron and Seafoam. Other times to save time and trouble I gas up at a marina that sells Valve Tect gas with stabilizer already in it. So far no problems but I still wonder if it's doing any harm. Also I would like to know what is the best additive. I've read in a couple places that don't sell it that Startron is the best but haven't heard anybody except people selling it that any other brand is best...Charlie

![]() Most of these additives are best used if you plan to store the fuel for a long time like winter lay over and or you don't use the boat much... If you are using the boat a lot and running through a lot of fuel, I don't think they are needed.
I don't think mixing the 2 additives in the same tank of fuel will hurt anything but why risk it. I would use one or the other on each tank full.

![]() Gerry is right, but I do the opposite. I run Stabil thru my 25hp in very gallon I burn. You never know what will be the last trip of the season. And in turn was gas is inside the motor(Not the tank). I typically use the boat about 12 times a year. But the gas in the tank lasts about 5 or 6 trips.
I guess I would say over cautious.
