Default Team Blind Squirrel PP Elks Wrapup

First off Congrats to the winner and to all who placed on a tough day of fishing

I will change my hashtag from #I suck, to #I still suck but not that bad today. We started off North like most at the snake but we fished away from the fleet and had a couple of keepers right off da bat and our biggest fish was on the first couple of drifts (Thank you Richie and Dave) BTW 2 years in a row Dave actually caught some fluke , so I guess it is not a fluke that he might be able to catch some fish - (Yes I know really bad pun but can't let go of my inner googan)

Stayed and hung out around the snake through change of tide and kept picking a few more than decided to run north and try and get some bigger fish.Picked a couple of more but it was getting late and we wanted to hit a couple more spots on the way in and stopped by long branch and worked our way south from there where we had great action and put a couple more in the box but nothing big and decided to hit the weigh in with what we had just to see if we might place on the board.

While in line we asked around about biggest fish (BTW I pulled the ultimate googan and bucktailed while we were at the weigh in - got nothing but you never know and never say surrender) and after hearing about what was caught we decided to bail and not weigh in with our biggest fish being 5lbs.

I got lucky and got my first limit of the year-, biggest was around 21 inches, Glen did reel well with the fishing and pulled a great late comeback after lets just say he made a great recovery (I would have went balistic) , Richie and Dave pulled the biggest, Larry threw a couple in the mix (poor guy lost a ton of jigs but never gave up, ever buying jigs again buddy?) and Henry held his own all day and added to the total and we wound up with 15 to 5 lbs.We through everything we had at them, caught on high low spro's with 6" grubs , white , green , nuclear chicken, whole squid, spearing, sand eels, strips anything you could think of , even dragging bait. Today most fish were non-committal and you really had to let them chew and draw back then cross there eyes. Tons of shorts, skates with some doggies thrown in. I thought I had a really big fish , I set the hook, started breathing and almost cracked a few fillings, sharted, called for the net, friggin foul hooked flukey thought it was the one. I had total game face - and way to funny.

I want to thank the Megan Beth, Captain Dan and Russ (you ol salty dog) for a great trip on one hell-ov-a boat that is really really nice, fast,,comfortable and clean. If you have never been you are missing out and a great little secret known as Captain Dan and he was actually one of the first Captains I ever fished with and have been fishing with him for about 20 years.

Richie thank you again for the smoked chicken it was awesome , Henry for bringing tons of bait, awesome shirts and the coolest terrible towels i will never use because they are to nice and the rest of the crew for the laffs and combined effort for a good day even though we didnt get on the board

It was nice to see a bunch of familiar faces at the picnic, Shrimpie, Eric MM,Capt. Jelly and Marie ( who the hell is this girl on your boat) from the Monger, Stellie , Capt. Wayn-O, Chris who finally got on a boat , Mike Sharkyispy and my boy John Devin even made an apperance

Thanks to Team Blind Squirrel cant wait until next year and feel free to add whatever I missed or what you might want to divulge-

Be Well - Be Safe - Fish On

Nice recap on your day...The only thing we were worried about when Dan pulled up was why were the inmates on furlough out in the ocean???? The tan/brown shirts on numerous men...... LMAO!!! I can't make it up, I just heard it being said....Good seeing you at the Elks also....

Thanks for reporting for us George, and yes, thanks to Capt, Russ and my fellow Squirrles for a another truly great day ( with the exception of my shattered rod of course )

And PS . . . The furlough thing is closer to the truth than you know, but it's more like inmates from an asylum than a prison

Nice write up George. The whole thing made sense!
Very impressed with your grinding out a LIMIT on a day like that, well deserved and not surprised. Fishing next to you I know you worked for it! Also want to second the great trip Capt Dan provided on the super comfortable Megan Beth. We were well taken care of by an obvious professional and Russ was there all day. We already booked for next years tourney and will be onboard for some other trips as well.
Thanks Capt Dan
