I'll take the sampler platter, please.
Had the weirdest fishing day in a while yesterday. Started off at a tiny lake out by Hopatcong and then hit Verona Lake on the way home. Been experimenting with shiners and fathead minnows for trout, etc., and was hoping to catch a stockie rainbow or brown or two. Nope, wasn't meant to be.
Instead, I caught a pu-pu platter of other fish:
One crappie
One yellow perch
One golden shiner
One largemouth
One sunfish
To make the day even more odd:
1) I caught the crappie and a fishing line with a white inline spinner on it at the same time
2) I caught the shiner after casting too hard and thus hurling the tiny golden shiner that was already on the hook flying in one direction and the rig flying in another. Went to retrieve it quick since it had no bait on it and there was a fish on. A 6" golden shiner bit a bare hook. Go figure.
The sunfish was big enough to be a small bass. Thought it was one at first...
Weird day. Weird assortment.
