Default Raritan questions

Let me start by saying I'm not looking for anyone to "spot burn" whatever the hell that is.

That being said earlier on the 2014 fishing goals thread I said I wanted to learn how to fish rivers and creeks. Tomorrow I'm going to try out the mighty raritan. Ill start at the ladder but I'm pretty sure you can't catch anything there unless your name is Ed. I'm looking for spots to hit after that in the area. I'm looking for places I can park and walk along the river a little bit without getting covered head to toe in mud. I won't be targeting any specific species. Thanks guys.

Stay wherever you parked for the ladder. There is plenty of fishing down stream. Walk it! You will find fish. Plenty of deeper pools below the island. Wear a light weight pair of waders in case you got to enter the water. Good luck let us know how you do.

Duke Island Park and Duke Park both have good shoreline access and both stocked with Trout this season.

This place.
Anyone who doesn't catch Smallmouth Bass and maybe some trout here should throw their rods in the water and take up golf.

I have no idea where that is. I just left the fish ladder. Skunked. Driving around trying to find another spot.

I was at the wall at 11..FE dropped a striper and landed a decent LMB ) for me at that spot...I headed down stream a few miles and pounded the smallies in the river and slayed the browns in the canal.

Oh okay. I just assumed everyone would recognize that place.
It's the Red Mill Museum in downtown Clinton (Hunterdon County)

Here's a link about it:
http://www.theredmill.org/index.html

I've found the fishing to be usually good in the pool directly beneath spillway and a few other areas downstream.

Upstream from the spillway land access is an issue. The people at the museum are *******s and don't want any shore-fishermen on "their" property. The same goes for the private land directly across the river from the museum.

Just upstream from the museum is a parking lot where you can park (maybe?) and access the river. A little further upstream is a bridge going over the river that I've seen people fishing from, so I assume it's okay, but who knows.

Mjh609, I was there from 830-1230 today. Hooked a big fish in the rain on my first cast. Lost em, because it spooled me in about 6 seconds, then popped off, I couldn't turn or stop this fish. Wound up landing a Largemouth on a plug. What time were you there? If you were there I'm sorry I didn't recognize you!!!
