Default 5/17 Stripers and sonar

Got out yesterday AM for a few w my buddy Anthony(Jackstraw) which is a rare occasion these days lol. Got down to the boatdock pre dawn, grabbed some bait, and made a long run. We had a beautiful sunrise and water conditions, was like glass out there early on. Found some life in my usual spots, started slow w a bunch of white/yellow perch schooling around, w small 12-14 stripers and even some bullheads mixed in, got em on bait and on the jig. This is the sonar return of that school......I have fishID turned on so u can see the actual fish....

This is the best fish we got out of that area......

After tiring of the little guys and moving around that area we made a run to the other side of the lake in a spot that always holds fish. I found a nice school w some bait balls getting broken up by feeding stripers, and we setup. Didnt take long to find this school. This is the sonar return of feeding hybrids breaking up bait balls while chomping on herring......

Within seconds we had this tanker on the line that went 7lbs and very fat. By the time we landed him the clikers on rods 2,3 and 4 went off, big school of hungry hybrids and the first fish feeding and fighting sent the school into chomp mode. Pic #2 is the actual school of bigger hybrids zipping under the boat taking our baits ........

Great day on the water, the lake was a ghost town til the late morning, everybody must be on vaca or sumthin. We actually stayed out til almost noon and we were able to fish main lake points w little problems from pleasure boat traffic. Water temps started at 73-74 and ended at 75-76, fall is coming and I cant wait to slam some giants w the feedbag on.....awesome fishing for august on LH

Nice Fish! Wish I had something bigger than a 9.9 to do Hopatcong! Hey I'm looking at getting a new sonar in the next few weeks and I was wondering which hummingbird unit you have there? It looks like the one I have my eye on! I want to stay with hummingbird but don't know if its worth it to go for side scan and down imaging? Do you have an internal GPS on yours. If so is it more sensitive then the older ones? Thanks!

Just wake ur ass up Eddie, u know where my boat slip is at, always an open spot..........drag ol Dale down with ya hes so ready for fall it aint funny LOL

15footer the unit in the pics is on the bow of my boat, its a 958c HD DI and im using it thru the US2 on my terrova TM. Its got DI but cant use it w the US2 Id have to external mount a DI transducer. The bigger units are all external GPS antenna, the puck is right behind the unit next to the TM so when I mark a spot I can literally find the exact spot, its very accurate and fast. The regular 958 w no DI is only like 50-100 less but I use the DI transducer on my little boat so I spent the xtra $$. My console has a 998c SI/DI unit and its using a hi-def side+downscan transducer on the transom. In LH i rarely use DI/SI cause of the way I fish, I use sidescan when I need to find baitballs, they stick out easily and u know which side u passed them on so u can mark a spot on the plotter and spin around and get over them and get em. Good electronics have changed the way I fish, its almost cheating in a way, I can ALWAYS find fish now, its just getting them to eat lol. Most guys I know dont use the SI/DI much, more of a bass fishermans tool but it is handy. If you got the $$ to blow on SI its great, but the 958 is killer and gives better 2D sonar returns too, and this one is the newest one w the HD LED screen, it glows bright even in direct sunlight and the 9" screens are HUGE. I like it better for my fishing type than my 998 which is almost 2x more expensive
