Default Can u ID this fish?

Took my son fishing for only the second time at Nomehegan in Cranford....I thought we were only gonna hook a few sunnies to have some fun. Up comes this fish,,,not too big but it was not what I was expecting to catch...thought it was a small carp or perch but after some research someone told me it was a golden shiner. What do u think?

Golden shiner -- aka pike, bass, walleye food.

I have also caught these guys on spinners, jigs, and flies. Decent little fight on light weight stuff and then WTF! Now I know

Yup...golden shiner. Catch one like that again...at the right lake...and your son will have a pic with an even bigger...toothier (if that's a word) fish. Great picture and great job on the id

Good to see some fish survived in backwater. How did the main lake look?
