Default First Day Out

Long time no post. Hope everyone is doing well. I have been in a bit of a crazy state between houses and having everything in storage. I finally get the strength to get all my kayak stuff from the BOTTOM MIDDLE of my 8x10 storage unit (fully packed) and made the hike up to my favorite no-shore-fishing-allowed reservoir

I took Friday off and battled the wind in my Hobie i12s (yep, inflatable. yep, the wind moves it pretty good.). It wasn't too bad on the way out as I had the wind at my back. Had my fish finder going and was holding 54.4* on the surface at most fish were marking between 10'-15'. I did make a rather huge fish in there and for a second I thought I was on Wicket Tuna. With my hands tight waiting for a yank on my trolling line, I just kept moving without a bump. I estimate the fish to be 3.5' long with the ground covered and the depth markers on the Lowrance.

Trolled around and sought cover from the wind behind an island and picked up a 16-17" chainy guy on the troll using a BPS XPS lure. Started throwing to shore with a slow retrieve and saw the laziest, and I mean the absolute LAZIEST pickerel strike I have ever seen. The thing came up out of nowhere, looked at it, lazy swipe (and miss) at the lure, and nonchalantly swam back down to the bottom.

Drifted around a bit and started to push back into the wind for my 1.65 mile pedal back to the launch. Just as I started to kick back I landed a slender SMB that measured around 19". Nice fish.

After cruising along and taking a mercy break against the wind for lunch I declared it a successful day and headed on back home.
