Default Lake Ontario lodge/ marina?

Looking to possibly go up there for some time in september. I used to go to ron ditch and sons in Henderson Harbor, it's been a long time because we started going to Canada instead. This year I was looking to go for a few days and was wondering if anyone has some advice on a place to stay where the fishing is good in a skiff as well as a possible charter for a couple days. I am trying to keep the cost down as low as possible, when my business closes for the season in august I will probably have a lot of food left to bring for meals/drink so a kitchen would be nice.Any help?

Probably better asked in the freshwater board. Lake Ontario can get real nasty, so running in a skiff can be quite dangerous. If you're going for salmon, its the right time of year and big lake is where you need to be.

However, if its not for salmon, and with a small boat the St Lawrence, especially the Canadian side over the 1000 Islands Bridge. is great fishing, cheaper and does not blow up like the big lake.

We used to fish the St. Lawrence first, then on the way back charter out of Henderson Harbor or Mexico for the salmon.

mid to late september i dont think you could go wrong with fishing out of salmon river/port ontario/pulaski area. if the weather is nice maybe try camping at selkirk shores state park or if you prefer a hotel try the port lodge motel. both of these places are within a mile or so of the pine grove boat launch. the pine grove boat launch is a small gravel boat launch and you shouldnt have any problems motoring around the estuary of the salmon river. by then kings, coho, and maybe some trout will be making thier way in and alot of people fish it anchored with egg sacks and light lines in the bigger holes.

I will go for salmon, but am not looking to be at the mouth of the river with a thousand boats, I guess I am more going for the smallie fishing. I have been to the Salmon river a bunch of times, I am looking more for a place on the Harbor or St Lawrence. You are right about the big Lake, I remmeber being sea sick out there once, so the skiff would be mainly for the back waters.

As Bunker Dunker suggests, I would consider Fair Haven.. There is a state park there that offers a great ramp, and they also rent cabins.. The location is well suited to a smaller boat, as it offers access to Little Sodus bay...which can be a day-saver when the wind blows.. Little Sodus usually not the best for Salmonids, but it's loaded with Bass, Pike, pannies, etc.. nice back up plan if you can't get on the big lake... there is also a smaller "pond" in the middle of the park that feeds into the lake that has good shore fishing for warmwater species..and only about a 20 min run over to Oswego for even more options.. Although we always pull our own boats up there, plenty of charters are available out of Fair Haven .. Screwy Louie is one that comes to mind.. He also runs a tackle shop of the same name in town and can give you some good intel about whats going on.. Have a great trip !
