Default Bowfishing For Carp

Was wondering if anyone could suggest a place or even a guide to do some bowfishing for carp?

I've got a 14 year old who is anxious to give it a shot. Thanks for your help!

Kind regards,

Roger

Used to do it up in The Passaic River when I was a kid. Find a berry tree hanging over the water or near the edge of the river. They eat the berries and all you have to do is shake the tree, drop some berries in the water! You should get a couple to come right up to the surface! Usually can work a single tree for about an hour or so, before you need to walk away and let the fish gather again.

Sounds crazy, but I am being very honest. Its a great way to teach a kid. This is the perfect time with the trees starting to bloom too! As long as you have berries on the tree, the fish will be in that area waiting for them to fall!!!

Good Luck!

I know of a pond in Red Bank that has a couple big carp in the shallow water. You can see their backs above the water line. Could probably get one or two shots off before they get spooked. Let me know if you're interested in this. send e-mail to dpeterson@sportcow.com

used to do a lot of bow fishing in TN for carp and gar.

noticed when the water was really low in Spruce Run there was some HUGE carp that could be jumped with stealth. Will be bringing the bow next time when conditions are right there.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to bow fish there but....

Lake Musconetcong in Netcong is loaded with Carp. I spooked at least 50 of them with my boat. I was there last weekend Bass fishing and snagged one in the back with a spinnerbait. It had to be 15 lbs....had him in my hands at the boat and dropped him snapping my line and losing my spinnerbait. What a fight though.

There is a large shalllow area in the back to the right as you leave of the boat launch that they seem to really like.

Again, I do not know if you are allowed to bow fish there so I'd check first. Good luck either way.

I've seen it done successfully at Lenape Park in Cranford and the Rahway River in Springfield. Can't verify the legality but its been done.
