Default NOAA offshore wind report

2 1/2 year joint study , a whole 150,000 (peanuts ).

IMO still raises a lot of questions to how bad the effects will be .
Would def like to see the whole 388 page report posted for public view .

A $60,000/year study wouldn’t be sufficient for a duck pond.

Google or Bing "block island offshore wind farm effect on fishing". Completed in 2018. There is a video of a party boat fishing near them and the observation of the captain as well as other articles and opinions. Why "study" what will happen if you build an offshore wind farm when you can open your eyes and see the result? I'll answer my own question. The NOAA people doing the studies that also create the ridiculous fishing regulations some of you guys follow would be out of a job and they don't want that.

This ship has proverbially sailed. If an injunction on the construction of wind farms or the re-examination of the federal and state data which was analyzed as part of the application and the eventual issuance of construction permits is to be considered, a law suit needs to filed. The person or organization filing the law suit had better have very deep pockets and alot of staying power. Other than that, you're whisting in the wind, unfortunately.

In 2016, Rhode Island built the first OSWF which had five turbines capable of generating 30 megawatts of energy. The Block Island wind farm you're referring to was 3.8 miles off of Block Island. In 2019, another 400 MW wind farm to be created off of Martha's Vineyard known as the Revolution Wind Farm project was approved for construction. In 2020, Gina Raimondo, the former Governor of Rhode Island and now Secretary of Commerce, authorized another 600 megawatts of offshore wind farms to be developed. Block Island to my knowledge currently has 49.6 megawatts of capacity in the form of OSWF's or the equivalent of six turbines. New York and New Jersey alone, as mentioned in a previous post, are looking to create 20,000 MW's through OSWF's over the next decade and a half. Each turbine is capable of producing approximately 8 MW's of electricity which means between New York and New Jersey alone, in total they would have approximately 2,500 turbines. Comparing the impacts on fishing and the environment between Rhode Island with 6 turbines and the numbers planned to be built in the foreseeable future up and down the Eastern seaboard is no comparison at all. The sample sizes of your comparison aren't remotely comparable which means the potential consequences of your comparison aren't at all representative.

Just curious since you brought it up, what fishing regulations do you follow if not the official "ridiculous" regulations most everyone else does?

Amen! And if anybody honestly believes a lawsuit filed against the federal government to ban the further development of offshore wind farms will be won doesn't understand the depths our own government will go to to insure that doesn't happen.

Now that right there is GREAT! The recreational fishermen has for decades been getting the short end of the stick and very rarely does anyone feel the regulations are fairly arrived at and they'd be right. That being said, making your own rules when most choose to abide by the rules is not the right answer and is only going to hurt the entire sector more than benefit it in the long run.
