![]() My kid wants to try saltwater fishing (piers, jettys, etc). I have a 6.6' Ugly Stick medium rod that's just gathering dust in the garage but it needs a reel. My son found Penn Pursuit IV for $50 which I know is an entry level reel but with decent reviews. Then we started browsing the internet and people recommend an upgrade to Penn Fierce III (for $15 more), then some posts say that the Penn Battle or Daiwa BG is the only reel worth buying ($110), etc. You get the idea. Considering that my son is only 12 and won't be casting 9' or 10' rods yet, what would be a decent reel (and reel size) for the 6.6' rod we have?

![]() Stick with the Penn Pursuit IV for $50. If he likes it and keeps going you can always upgrade.
