Default Keyport Seahawk - Albie Anarchy

We've been bottom fishing for porgie and puffers and stuff recently (i won't read a book without pictures so i won't post a report without pictures either haha)

but last trip we went out specifically for the little rocket powered albies. the first blitz we saw unfortunately had boats on them that thought it was a good idea to just constantly blast through the middle of them and then cast. We got a few but that got annoying pretty quick.

We headed away from them and found a MASSIVE flock of diving birds over a football field of blitzing albies! only one other boat anywhere in range of this with us and no blues mixed in! We usually only get one really good albie day in per season but this def scratched the itch We only fished til about noon and boated 16 and each popped a few off near the boat.

All fish on EXO jigs and Gotcha jigs. I popped a little flasher blade on the split ring for added attraction, it seemed to make a difference early in the morning, but later on it didn't seem to matter. we had double headers, fish going all around the boat with 8ft swells tossing us around, just plain anarchy

Chris great report! The puffer as you probably know is a blow fish, arguably one of the best tasting fish you'll ever eat. Did you try it? Solid white fillet and the meat falls off the bone. Would love to see them stage a comeback. Back in the late 60's or 70's, one year they were literally all over the place in crazy numbers, next year never saw them again until a few years back they started reappearing in Barnegat Bay. Always wonder what happened to them. Good job finding the albies, fall fishing is a great time of year!

yeah probably what happened haha. I've tried them, yes they are very good. The best fish i've ever tasted though is cobia hands down, lightly seasoned 'steak' cut of the fillet directly on the grill grates...amazing! locally, my favorite is tog though

Super quality pics, you should go around giving lessons to some of these guys. Rare to see such heavy concentrations of these albies offshore, inshore and in the back at the same time this late in the year and all nice size too. They must have scared the blues away.
