Re: How to Small Boat Mahi Mahi in NJ
Some 6 packs will usually try for them while they are chartered for deep water wreck trips. All depends on what the conditions are and if the mahi are around and worth targeting. Not sure we have any who do specific trips for them but maybe some will chime in here.

Re: How to Small Boat Mahi Mahi in NJ
Always make sure you bring plenty of rods, you never know when one may break loose and run up the outrigger with a 30w attached to it.... and never leave any knives what so ever in the bucket.... jopey dont see so good after his 4th mountain dew..

Re: How to Small Boat Mahi Mahi in NJ
Great post and info! A few years back when I keeping my boat down in Belmar I decided to go out to the Mud Hole and troll for Mahi. Got out about 14 miles out of the inlet and found lots of life everywhere. Dolphins swimming right next to the boat, pods of baitfish. Conditions seemed perfect. Water wasn't blue but clean and surface temps where above 72f. Found some pots and started to troll some ceder plugs around 6 kts and bam! Double hook ups. Let me tell you these fish put on a show. Jumping and fighting hard. It was great fishing for a few hours and we wound up with 8 Mahi in the box and headed back. What a day and I felt great since this was my first time trying for these fish. When I got back to the dock people where like "where and how did you catch them" ? since my boat was only a 20 fter. No doubt a perfect day and let me tell you they are great on the grill and taste awesome. Pick your days and conditions if you plain on going out there and you will be surprised what you might catch. Tight lines.... K

Good, timely post. Can't wait for the stars to align again. Love seeing those neon fish jumping clear of that blue water!

I was just in contact with them this past week inquiring about a mahi trip in August. Only caveat for me is that it be a weekend trip. If your interested PM me and let's see if we can get something set up. |
