I'm going to say whatever happens to be tied to the end of your line. You need to put something in front of the fish that he wants to bite. So I'd say the correct lure or bait that presents itself where the fish are is most important.

TOOL = DUPES
Reason : On my boat .... I am catching fish and when I say do this he does that !!!!

A BRAIN or common sense or common courtesy! Too many fisherman leave the dock without one or without it. Everything else you can adapt but mindlessness has no remedy!

The ability to change something, especially my "go to" rig when things are not working. Harder than it sounds.

I say rod/reel set up. This plays a major role in catching and landing whatever species you are targeting. The set up can cost you the fish. Trying to land a big fish with a noodle rod that is pushed to its max compared to a rod with the right amount of backbone to land the fish. The right reel that is for the type of fishing you are doing. Correct gearing etc The right set up in your hand can make or break you
