![]() If you have the money at this point you looks like you spent alot of coin trying to get back on the water. You could go new with warranty or buy used. Ive had some good luck on clist but you need to be careful and do your diligence if buying a used motor.

Maybe try another fuel line.....borrow one if possible and cross that off the list first before spending the cash for a new engine. |

![]() I second check your fuel lines. Not only the one from the tank to the engine but the ones under the cowel. Also check the impulse hose to the pump. (if it has one) No pulse from the crankcase to the pump will cause the pump to not work properly.
I have has issues where old lines were breaking down internally. They looked OK on the outside but the inside was swelling and blocking off fuel flow. It showed nearly that exact problem. The engine would run great for 20 mins and then starve for fuel and die. For $10 in fuel hose, it's worth a shot. |

![]() I got a 2000 9.9 mercury mariner four stroke, and the damn thing runs as smooth as any motor I've ever seen. Highly recommend this motor. I've used it for trolling on the big finger lakes, small ponds, medium lakes, passaic river, deleware river, it performs great!!!

![]() I just got a Suzuki 9.9 4 stroke. Moves my boat faster than my Evinrude 15hp ever did and doesn't use much gas. Very happy so far.

![]() Not sure where you are located but Im 5 min away from Lake Hopatcong and I think I can diagnose this engine quickly. I agree with what has been said on fuel line, if the diaphram/pump are good and replaced and you have done all of the above I would isolate the issue w a portable tank and a known good fuel line and I would also ultrasonic clean the carbs and remove all internal parts. You would be amazed how many times a carb kit does not cure a carb ethanol problem due to residue in the passages. The new small 4strokes are just as problematic as your '99 is, they are NOT tolerant of dirty fuel or carbs like 2 strokes of the past, but as long as that is good they are excellent motors. I wouldnt own another 2 stroke unless its a DFI large HP engine, I dont even like working on them anymore lol

![]() Thanks for all the advise guys, this is clearly the best forum/page out there!
I am going to replace the fuel lines and also try a new tank and hose before I do anything else. Jimmythegreek, thanks for the offer on the diagnosis, may take you up on that if the above doesn't work. |

![]() I've run only non ethonol hightest in all my small engines. Have done this for the last two years and it makes a big difference. One pull starts most all the time, lower smother idle and no worries about old gas. With the ethonol you never know what your getting a station owner could just put a garden hose it the storage tank for a little extra profit and the water would just be absorbed by the alcohol.
