I used to use 8" +/- 80#braided wire crimped to hook and swivel...took tag end back up through crimp in case of slippage...used improved clinch knot swivel to line...
Now, when I can go, I just use store-bought prepackaged stiff wire "J" hook rigs...

Pennsy, PB in Pt Pleasant are doing well Norma k by night and Cockrobin in the day. I use the pre-package 3in to j, but i must not be tying the improved clinch knot properly from line to swivel because i lost 6 fish. Switched to baitrunner setup and had the mate tied it and landed 8. I use a 25lb Trilene line for the conventional reel and a 20 for baitrunner. I caught the fish with the baitrunner. Lost them on the conventional. Going to try the Palomar. Maybe Tuesday Night 9/2 ! Thanks !

FRybacki, obviously, can't say what the clinch knot problem was but use the palomar by all means...can't go wrong with it...I use both for tuna and never had a problem --knock on wood--if I tied it...just take your time and retie if it ain't right...a bad knot has lost many fish...just sayin'...catch 'em up...

For the record. On some days blues CAN be line shy. It there are fish around and they are not biting this is what I do AND IT WORKS. 40 pound floro leader ( just two feet or so). And a circle hook so they don't bite thru the floro. This has landed me many fish while others are scratching their heads. I am not pulling your leg. The can be line shy at times

I dunno about being line shy, but I know I've def done better certain days using the thinner/shorter wire leaders and smaller hooks. Other days it didn't matter and the thick heavy wire and larger hooks worked just as well.
