Yes

But I think you can use it being that you don't sell them for profit, you are just a fisherman, fishing.

That is exactly the problem!!!!!!!!!!!Pull up on Shrewsbury Rocks and there is the gill netter where all the stripers are holed up.He starts pulling and releasing ''dead stripers'' keeping the few blues and skates. The guy is laughing at us.What a waste! But it is perfectly legal so they just do it with no remorse.I have observed this many times over the years and it makes me sick!

dont go getting panties in a bunch , i believe this all has to do with commercial only ! recreational fishing is ok ! ....if you and a few of you buddies are going out and come across a school of bunker . a cast net to catch some for bait is ok ...but if you load up and try to sell the catch then you fall under the catagory of unlicensed commercial fisherman and get fined as ! but dont quote me on this because this is now the new america !

Can we and I am sorry to be blunt but when I say we I mean all of you, STOP using the word "Recreational"

Just say fisherman, that word recreational is a bad word, it's their play on words. They being the .gov.

We are fisherman, some are avid and some once in a while but we are fisherman.

Fisherman, fish for themselves to feed their families.

Commercial fisherman, makes a living.

Wrong again Russ,I ''try to'' and used to make a living as a charter boat capt. and I am not a ''commercial'' fisherman .There is a difference.A commercial fisherman sells his harvest,i don't.

russa ,

the reason i say recreational is because we keep what we catch and bring to the dinner plate. if it is not of the proper species we dehook and toss back , if its not of proper size we dehook and toss back! those fish live another day to be caught when they are of legal size . allowing them to spawn and create more fish!

commercial fisherman , yes they are out to make a living . but what they catch no matter what the target species is they end up with others in their nets. thus killing the by catch. no spawning, no procreating ect.

now guys like tuna fisherman or sword fisherman that use lines and hooks can be labeled as live line fisherman ! imo

if you dont set limits ...then later on you will hear guys bitching and moaning what the hell i went out and couldnt catch shit there is no fish left

This letter has created a lot of confusion and concern as to how the closure will effect our bait and tackle stores. First of all the letter addesses specific gear types, secondly it states that a by catch of over 6000 lbs. is prohibited.
Most if not all of our bait boats bring in far less than that amount. Therefore this rule will have no effect on our local bait and tackle stores or the fishermen who want to buy bunker for bait. It should be business as usual.
