![]() It says Echo Lake, NJ. Is there a different Echo lake in NJ?

![]() Years ago, the state stocked Lenape with lmb. I wouldn't expect the County to stock any fish in Nomahegan. If you are really concerned (and it sounds like you are) contact the Div. of Fish and Wildlife and the Union County Sportsmen's Federation. Just on a side note, Surprise Lake was stocked privately, by an anonymous person a number of years ago after the cleanout of that lake. Newark Bait and Fly only stocks trout in Echo.

![]() On the state list of stocked waters, Echo Lake is listed as Lower Echo Park Pond. It has always been called Echo Lake by everyone from Union County. I'm not sure about why the state calls it what it does. The park itself is called Echo Lake Park. Confusing?

Echo already had a decent population and i guess a good way to look at it is,,now it has a better pop.., but that place needs a good dredging too, so kind of a catch 22 i guess.... Thanks for that info billfish, i might just do that and i'll let ya know the results if i do ![]()

![]() I went for a run in Nomahegan today and talked to one of the engineers who was sitting in his car. He confirmed that the lake was indeed shocked and the fish put into Lower Echo Lake. When I asked what happened to the carp, he said they were "disposed of" because they're considered invasive and "they" didn't want them in Echo Lake. It kills me to think of how many 20 and 30 pound fish they pulled out of there. I don't know about you guys, but I would sure as hell rather catch a handful of 10-inch crappie than a 25-pound carp.

![]() I used to fish Surprise 20 years ago for pickerel when I was a kid. I heard they were dredging it but I didn't know they were removing the fish. Kudos to the guy who took the time and effort to restock it.
I'm glad they went to the effort of relocating most of the fish at Nomehegan. It's a pity about the carp though of course. |
