One of the easiest methods to catch shad is via the fly rod, unfortunately youmust be able to cast one to do so!
I made a video back in 94 / 96 era for an outdoors production company out of Fla. They sold a couple thosand of those on VHS format, if you an find one I go into detail on the fly rod use for shad.
All was doneon a two day shoot on localDelaware spots in the month of June!
Fly Fishing for shad was title !
Not sure if this can be used today or not.
Good luck out there, you can PM me for any info !

My limited success with the fly rod was on the Upper Delaware........critical was the location......(spots I chose to fish)........Had success with larger, colorful offerings fished close to the bottom with a long, slow swing.

I definitely want to try going for shad this year- I have read about the reports from previous years, but have never focused on them before. Might need to gather some info on these fish and give it a try- I am always up for something new

Actually the most success has actually been Easton P
S north to Flatbrookville.
My method differs entirely from yours but is amazingly successful.
Hopefully this season will turn into one of the better shad seasons for all.

I love fly fishing for Shad. I use darts with a flashaboo tail added for more flash. I also tie a pink or chartreuse bodied fly with dumb bell eyes and matching tail with flashaboo added. I sometimes throw tandem flys with great success. A hot buck will make you work.
