So what is the preferred size baitholder hook to use when jigging gulp? Assume not on a mission to target monster fluke in a tourney?

I use a 6/0 bait holder hook. Have caught 3 N.J, DD`S in the last 6 years to 13.6. As previously mentioned, going bigger is not a problem, it is more of presenting the bait you are using properly. I jig fluke with a bucktail that is just heavy enough to feel the bottom and a 6 inch gulp grub 12 inches above the bucktail..... Color depends on the conditions / water clarity.... Pink shine, pearl and chartreuse..I never drag the rig.... Just cast into the drift. Most fish hit, just as the bucktail is making the turn to go with the drift.... Nothing better than getting the good bite and lifting as the rod doubles over.

I've been using the Tsunami glass minnow jig that has the silicone skirt. The extra long shank has a bait holder barb and is ideal for use with 5 & 6 inch Gulp grubs as teasers. A 6/0 or larger bait holder either naked or with a skirt is my other choice. I usually fish with a 5 or 6 inch Gulp swimming mullet on the bucktail fished below the teaser.

If you use the smaller 4" mullet as a teaser you can use a smaller hook or bucktail with it on your dropper. 3/8 to 3/4 oz. bucktails are perfect for droppers with the smaller gulp products. I, too, have caught some decent fluke on them. Even an elephant will eat a peanut now and then.......as they say!
