![]() Hey all!
The winter months are fast approaching which means many of us will be cooped up inside waiting for spring. Then there are those of us who will be suiting up in winter coats and long johns and heading out to fish anyway! From what I've heard, Ice fishing hasn't been great the last few years due to lack of thick enough ice, which leaves people like me stuck on the banks of our beautiful NJ ponds, lakes and rivers. That being said, what are everyone's favorite winter fishing tactics? I usually soak bait and wait for a bite, but I'm wondering if there are some winter bites I'm missing out on. I wanted to start this thread for some of the other novice anglers (like myself) who don't want to wait for warmer weather to get back on some fish. I look forward to seeing your responses! Tight lines all! ![]() |

![]() On the forum you can go back in time by clicking on the page number. Page 30 seems to take you to some post sorted in December last year.
Doing this, you can analyze who's catching what, where, and when (sometimes where ![]() My plans are to keep gunning for trout. But I got my eyes on crappie fishing when it's just too cold. Various ponds will help get you through the winter if you find that sweet spot. The canal I got my eyes on too. Last year I did ok there. |

![]() Plenty of fishin to do all winter no need to wait til spring! Everyone winterizing the boats makes more room for some of us nut jobs. U could fish shore for rainbows and Lakers in the boat or without the boat at the valley, all the tca areas fish well all winter long, jumbo panfish in the shallows if that's what u want, steelhead up north.... pick your poison!the ice fishing has been very crappy past years but there's ice out there if u know where to look.... Lots of big fish come out these holes through the winter and many of us look forward to ice season every year.

![]() Are you allowed to fish at night from the shores at Round Valley? It would be great to build a fire and wet some lines, I work most of the day and a lot of times the only chance I get to fish is at night. I assume the park closes at dusk, but a man can dream can't he?
![]() Another winter tactic I like to do is jig off a bridge for crappie, always a good time, but I want to expand my winter techniques. |

![]() ![]() Again, plenty of species in the canal willing to bite. And there's no gates there. Ive seen group of teens drive a goddamn jeep through the toe path once. |

![]() I wish the canal was closer to me! I've fished there a few times and I've done very well there, but RVR is 10 minutes away from my house and on my way home from work. When I get a chance though I'm gonna hit it at night!

![]() Winter Pickerel fishing is one of my favorite times of year. Finding a nice cold body of water and throwing some suspending baits is a highlight for me.
