I fish so much at night I no longer use a headlamp... like Bane:
"Ah you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!" Lol... but seriously. Double or triple A battery powered lamps for $30 or less are sufficient.

Thanks for all the input guys. As usual I spent more than anticipated. I wound up picking up a Fenix HL60R. It uses rechargeable batteries, but can also use regular CR123 batteries as a backup. I can keep a pair in my tackle bag just in case. Multiple light levels, including Red, 5 and 50 lumens that I will probably use the most. It will ramp up to 150, 400, and a time limited 950 if I need it to though. I can only see needing that if my regular boat light craps out or something. I'll post a few pics when I get to play with it.

If fishing from a boat, couple interior lights are easy to install and extremely cheap. 90% thats all I need but I do have a few cheap stream-lites I get free from work. Plenty bright enough and only $20 if you had to buy them

I recommend getting a small back-up light, too. It's scary when you drop your light or it stops functioning and you're left alone in the inky blackness of a moonless night. .

I got a hat from LL Bean that has two bulbs built into the beak that runs forever on a small battery and throws a lot light.

Good advice on this thread & I'm putting it on my favorites for later. I bought a headlamp for $16 at Dicks way back in 2003 I really liked, but somehow, it went missing, and for the life of me I can't find it anywhere. So last fall night surf fishing I used one of my cheap Energizer headlamps, think that's it, something for like 8 bucks at Home Depot I despise. Wanted the other to last the rest of my life, and maybe it will, turning up years from now, but in the meantime, before I go back out for stripers, I guess I'm going to have to spring for something that's better anyway.

Princeton Tec but most nights on the jetty I never turn it on because I can see well enough without it.
