![]() I haven't had a chance to hit the river for a few weeks, and I had a chance to hit the river this afternoon for a little while. Given the fact that we are at summertime lows, I decided to fish a small stretch I hadn't been to in a while, and it didn't disappoint. I fished for about 40 minutes, and only walked a very short stretch of river, and ended up 3/4 on some very nice fish. They were all in the 30's and fat, with the big fish was about 34" and the smallest was right around 30". The fish were in excellent condition as well. During the course of fishing, I had the pleasure of ripping a giant hole in my pants. Given the intense heat and my wardrobe malfunction I decided to call it a day, though I was eager to try a few other spots. Unfortunately, I forgot the tripod in the car so the pics aren't great either.

Due to the fact that these pike are hatched from broodstock raised in NJ and there is some natural reproduction, I think these fish are pretty well acclimated to thriving in higher water temps. The fish from yesterday were in excellent condition, and I don't know of many freshwater fish in this state that are that aggressive in that kind of heat. Amazing fish. |
