Default NB O' the Raritan Smallies

Got out on some fresh water last night for the first time in weeks. Nothing crazy but couldn't take not fishing any more so just grabbed a rod and went out. Hit the NB right around the corner from my house...waded up about a quarter mile to a spot and just worked it a bit as I only had about an hour before dark. Ended up with 4 SM...one little guy and 3 in the 1 to 1.5 lb range with about 4 more hook ups that I could not catch up with to get a good hook set. They freak out when they bite and head right at ya at about a hundred miles an hour...hate that. All bites in the last 45 minutes before sunset with all fish caught on a T Rigged 4 1/4 inch Green Pumpkin Stiko weightless. Just let it drift with the current with a slight twitch every so often. Not bad for an hour. Then I had to leave 'em bitin. Wading back down river in the dark aint my thing...thankful for the low water in that respect.

Nice to have Smallie waters so close to home. Sounds like a fun little session to me. Those river BRONZEBACKS sure are tough little guys. Good to hear from you buddy.

TIGHT LINEZ!!!

Ken,

Great to hear you finally found time to get out.

And got some fish as well. Awesome.

Let me know how's your schedule working out. We got to meet up one of those days.

Andre

Nice to hear of someone fishing NB. Have only once this year, besides some trout fishing earlier in the spring. Son sighted a 19-inch smallmouth while walking our black Lab...so I just had to get out a few days later, but no dice, missed a couple of small ones on Chompers worms.

Love fishing the NB for smallies in the summer because I usually have the river to myself lol. Tons of ppl come for the trout stocking, but once the water warms up, they stop fishing it for some reason - which is fine by me. I've caught some beasts in that river.
