Hunterdon County Trout Smackdown (part 2)

Dr. Bones and I woke up at zero dark thirty again to hit the little streams in Hunterdon for our second week in a row.....

Decided to reverse order this week and not start North; we started on the little honey hole we found last week near Clinton and it was one-stop-shopping as the pool was stocked and stacked....every color egg worked...mealies worked....spinners....just no worms or crawlers. We were in catch and release mode in an hour....played around and gently let a dozen more go before Bones said, "Lets leave 'em for the next guys (or gals)".....(hes VERY politically correct that way!).

We did not see a single person on at least three streams up that way and all our regular spots held fish, but the catching was tricky at best. Folks, the water level was so low on the Spruce run creek we could walk in a few spots and chase them in sneakers. Spooky House had some brutes sitting there but they dont call it Spooky House 'cause its easy to get to them without spooking them!

Softball field bridge was devoid of anything....but if you fish the creek like Bones and me you know how to sneak down stream and find where they usually throw a net.

Saw lots of turkeys two weeks in a row and incredibly, you can pretty much walk right past them and they dont even bat an eye your way if you dont look threatening. (Bones usually looks VERY threatening except when hes carrying ultralight rods and reels!)

I know, I know.....everyone is going after the striped ones in Raritan Bay...thats fine with us....we'll take these streams all to ourselves for 2 more weeks before we head out!

Great report again man! I haven't seen anyone on the rivers either. I guess all the anglers have the plague or something. All these fish swimming happily and nobody on them. UNREAL!!! Glad you guys smoked em! Fished by myself on a Trout stream Thursday and got 20-25 Bows myself without seeing a soul up or down. AMAZING!

I've been taking the skunk repeatedly from Delaware targeting shad. Whacking those trout is tempting but I'm going to stay on the shad this year!
