Default Re: Spruce Run?

Learn how to rig and fish a slip float / bobber setup. Lots of info on the web. Helps when fishing deep, 6-8+ feet down or greater. I'm using slip floats for the past month or more to put live bait in the 15-20 range for smallmouth.

If you decide to drift baits at SR, ask what depth the fish are working at. The wipers are a blast and drifting baits at their level is how many guys play the game.

You can troll, but it take time and tools plus a good selection of lures to work the zone you are interested in. A cheap mans down rigger is a three way swivel, a large deep diving plug on two feet of line and a much smaller plug or spinner on a four foot trace on the third eye of the three way. I have done it to troll at 20-30 feet with giant spoon plugs or large deep diving plugs at Merrill Creek. Caught a bunch of trout that way there and other deeper lakes.

Luck to you.
