I know NJ trades Pike with Mass for Landlocks.....Does anyone know whats up with Connecticut and PA connections?

I know the CT DEP does an awesome job with their pike program, it will be nice having fish with those genetics in a few lakes

As a serious question since I know you worked for CT, then why are they getting pike fry from NJ?

It's the other way around. If you read the stocking reports it looks like NJ is getting pike from CT and MA.

Not so... From The NJ F&W 2013 Broodstock collection report...

"Over the winter, we also received requests from the Connecticut Division of Fish and Wildlife for 100,000 swimup northern pike fry"

We supplied Budd Lake source fry to CT in 2013...

Can you post a link to the report? I'd like to read it. The one skunk posted said that we got 135,000 pike fry from CT, maybe they want to try the Budd strain in a CT lake and the CT fish in NJ. The Budd pike are definitely different than the CT pike. I like the coloration of the Budd pike but the ones in CT are bigger, but that's probably due to the CT lakes having better habitat and forage base.

Matt, you are absolutely a pike master so no disrespect but I think the report says what we supplied (stocked or gave) so it was 135K going to CT. Based on what I've seen you catch, it certainly seems like they have some awesome fish there...

PA buys/trades it's hybrid stripers from NJ. That's all I know. PA only produces pure strain stripers.

Fascinating. The state F&G does a great job.

What strikes me odd, is why I don't catch more pike at Spruce Run.

Spruce Run Reservoir 67,050 Pike + 2 smaller stockings

That's a lot of fish, yet I can't seem to find them there.

Spruce Run Reservoir 4,460 Channel Catfish

That's not so many catfish, yet I can ALWAYS count on catching catfish there.
Most of the people fishing from the pier and shoreline are catching catfish, also.

My individual style of fishing must not lend itself well to catching pike. I don't know.

It's not all even exchanges... I forget what Craig told me but I'm not sure if in 2013 we got anything but the salmon from outside. All of these fish are provided at no charge to neighboring states as part of an ongoing fish exchange that has been in place for many years. Most of the cool and warm water programs started in New Jersey with eggs and fry from PA and NY. It's sort of a pay back for when we got help and a pay it forward for when we may need help from other states. These arrangements may very well come into play to help NJ get past the furunculosis problem at pequest.
