#3! Anyone attend the meetings in Toms River last year? You would no why #3. Later start with a reasonably later end of season, while watching out for an end with a large Northeast storm. And quote: “However, a slight majority of the PUBLIC (last year 2012) spoke in favor of reducing the season to 147 days with a bag limit of only 5 fish so that the size limit could be lowered to 17 ½. The commercial representatives, who outnumber the recreational representatives on the Council then made a motion to favor that alternative and it became law despite the fact that our recreational representatives voted against it.” ......
I was there and thought it was a clear majority, and yes the Party boat owners were there trying to protect their businesses since the 17.5 inch fish would allow their fares more opportunity to bring home fish. I agreed through applause as did other individual recreational fisherman. Individuals (key word) not represented by organized groups. Also remember that some members of such “representative” groups may have disagreed with the 18” size yet that opinion was represented and brought to the meeting by a majority. Again, maybe not unanimous . Last evening at my club with 30 members present, we voted in favor of option #3 almost unanimously. This vote of approval for option #3 will be carried by our club member representative to the JCAA.
And finally, “ 4.)A longer season is better for the economy simply because it gives everyone regardless of whether they are surfcasters, private boaters or charter and party boat fishermen more days to fish. “ While your statement for a longer season is true, it seemed the 17.5 inch fish was more important, so including the party and charter boats in that statement does not qualify. And Mr Haertel I know you were at last years TR meeting. I commend you for your efforts as I also commend others like Dave and the Save the Summer Flounder initiative. Thank you! “Regardless if you agree with me or not, it is important to attend the Council meeting and voice your opinions” Agreed!

I would have voted for the 5/4-9/29 season and an 18 inch fluke. Now i would go for #5. We can not afford a shorter season. This sucks. Captain George Angler

Number 4 gives the bass the longest time to get back. Best for all businesses. In may bass fishing is still very good. Shops need a fall fishery to help sustain them till bass show again. Number 4 is best

I would say option five would be best for fisherman, party boats and charter boats. I always say the longer season is better. Never really cared about the size limit...I don't think that inch hurts that much...even in the bay. I'd rather have the longer season to catch them.
