Just to show you how healthy the river has become.
Wonder why all the walleye are getting fat in there. Just wrote another letter to push for Sea Run Brown trout in the Raritan. |

Lampreys are actually very good eating, and are still highly prized as a delicacy in Europe, Russia, etc... They are rampant up here in the Finger Lakes.. Cayuga Lake is stiff with them, and the trout and Landlocked Atlantic Salmon fishing is getting hit very hard.. The fish are a mess.. They are full of scars, and thin and sickly.. Most fish caught now have one or two hanging off them, and if something isn't done really quickly, Cayuga lake salmonids will be decimated.. They had been under control for several years, but control costs money and the NYS DEC doesn't want to spend it.
In a few years there simply won't be enough trout and salmon left to bother with in Cayuga .. Cayuga lake is close to me but I usually drive to Seneca or Keuka Lakes as they aren't infested... Guys fishing cayuga with riggers are plagued with those damn parasites latching onto rigger balls, lower units, and even hulls... They are disgusting, and when I get one in my boat, two go back into the lake.... bob |
