Saltist levelwinds are not your normal levelwind reel. Having used them since they came out for all aspects of bottom fishing they have been a reel find for me.
I can work a std reel w/o issues, have done it for ever, but you know it's really nice not having to move or line the reel whrn retriving. The two I have work as good as the four w/o this feature. Now on that's all I'm buying,it's a reel time saver and keeps your speed up to par and does a nice job, holding up just fine so far! |

Level winds are heavier and they have more moving parts and more places for salt water to get inside the reel. The new saltist BG series are nice.

Just picked a 20 up for my pops and for the price it's a nice little reel, think the 30H would suit you just fine. These things are winches. Another option is to find a Tall (Saltist 30TH) which generally has a narrower/taller case, and less time spent guiding the line evenly about the spool. If you got the $ the new Saltiga's are the cat's meow!

I realize their are minor weight differances in these levelwind models ,however in most cases it's barely a couple of ounces.
Like I stated earlier I have only a couple of seasons on these Saltist levelwinds , however I own 8 - 300 Millionaires which I have fished hard for over ten seasons. Taken Stripers to 35#, many big fluke, Albies & Bonito w/o issues. Ordinary maintenence the reels preform as well today as they did when I bought them. Their my go to inshore reels ,cast like a dream and have held up remarkably well for being fished hard. The new Luna models have replaced these models & there supposed to be better. Don't own one yet since my present selection is fine. |
