We use a heat gun here, but for the residue that's left behind we use a product called "Goo Gone". It comes in a yellowish bottle. It works great, smells like lemons and won't damage anything underneath it. I've used it on priceless antiques to remove unfortunately placed stickers and it left zero scratching.

A guy i know used oven cleaner and it worked well

Heat Gun or Hair Dryer for letters then WD-40 for glue.

I used goo b gone but didn't remove all of it. Oven cleaner did the trick on mine
