Had a nice morning wading the raritan, main stem down in somerville.
One of the few days it has been wadable, it was a breeze crossing the river.
This morning was very cloudy. It seems the fireworks last night woke up all the SMB and got them chewing. Especially this 20 incher which started off the day.
Hit the green pumpkin grub on a 1/4 oz jig when I was reeling it back in after I drifted it through a deep run. Very lucky to land this thing with how powerful it shook its head out of the water. It also shot super fast through my legs upon a poor net job lol.
No other fish around so I tried for carp with corn but no luck. just a dink channel cat.
Wade back downstream where I came from and fished a zoom fluke, Arkansas shiner, on a ewg hook with split shots left over from the carp rig.
Landed 5 out of the 10 I hooked up with. Surprising how the small ones still manage to put the fluke + ewg hook in their mouth.
I definitely like this technique as much as a jig.
