Default MRMTC Bluefin Tournament 6/29

Left dock at 2:30am, knew the updated leaderboard and knew what we needed. Got to the area we knew to go. Fleet was not as big as we were expecting but it was combat fishing. As sky began to lighten, you could see and hear all the whales and porpoise spouting. Shortly after spread was set. Had a hit on the wwway back. Popped of to see the Joe Shute, full leader and some like was gone. All chafed up, a shark got us. Reriigged the rod and we have another bite, it’s a good one. Making a sweet run. Then a 32’ Express boat trying to move to a pod of whales, cut right behind us. Yelling, hitting the horn and screaming on the radio to no avail, boat cut us off. Shortly after the same boat did the same thing when we were on the move but luckily he didn’t cut us off. By 730am, life was gone. Started to spread out as did our friends. Came back to our original numbers and started to see whales and some life again around noon.

Final catch count. 0 for 1 on sharks, 1 for 2 on Bluefin (nabbed a small 36” under for dinner), 13lb Bluefish, 2 birds and someone’s 50’ Deep Diving plug which we didn’t see floating and got wrapped in our spreader bar and we had one other run off which I think was either the line catching on a fish or porpoise, bally wasn’t damaged and some line above the leader felt like sandpaper.

Pulled the plug earlier than planned due to the incoming storms and wind. Nothing to hang but came home with dinner, watched the Nat geo like marine life and beat the storms

Until the next time! Tight lines!
