Grateful Dad ling slinging
Took advantage of the holiday to head out with all-star crew Hart Attack Larry and nephew Pete. We decided to run out to the Sandy Hook reef to find some sea bass. Tried drifting, but couldn't hold bottom. We anchored up on a little piece, picked a few fish, mostly ling and short sea bass, but it was slow. Moved over to another snag, then we got a steady pick of some nice big ling, a few knucklehead seabass, and Pete's giant silver eel. Larry amazed us by catching a tog on a diamond jig. He can't catch them with crabs, but...
Conditions out there were perfect.
Tried a drift for fluke on the way back in, nada.
Words cannot express my gratitude for those soldiers that gave their lives so that a couple of old dudes could go out fishing on a Monday. God bless America.
