I hit the water at my annual opening day spot around 7:45, got a good spot for opening cast at 8 am. Two of my childhood friends met up with me shortly after and we started fishing. I caught a bunch of rainbows and one dinky bass, everyone was catching them pretty good but at one point for me it was a fish on every cast! My one friend hadn't been fishing in over a decade and he wasn't really trying too hard, but he managed to hook into a breeder! Unfortunately, once he got the beast to shore it ended up getting tangled in some brush and popped off the hook, but my friend was more than satisfied. It must have been 3-4 lbs and was loooong.
After we fished there for awhile we hit my favorite hometown spots, and the secret ones i used to fish as a kid. My second friend hadn't caught a fish yet, so after I caught a few more I focused on getting him on a fish. He finally hooked up with a nice bow back in one of my secret holes, which made us all very happy.
We fished from 8-5 and I ended the day with double digit fish, all safely released. I have to say, i was impressed by the quality of the stockies this year! They were beautiful, kudos to the state hatcheries.
Hope everyoone got a little time to get out there yesterday! The weather was beautiful, truly a great opening day. Tight lines all!!
