Default Keyport Seahawk - Late day bite window

John, Arty and I started off the day with some pretty bad fluke drifting conditions so we anchored up for some bottom fishing. we had some great company around us so I had a good feeling we were in the right area....but all we were getting for over an hour were tiny tiny seabass

Tried a few different things and decided to just go back to fluking. It was after 1pm and all we had was one measly keeper and moral was pretty low. I had an epic trip lake trout jigging the day before and I have to admit that's where i wish i was again at this point hahaha (btw that's posted in the FW forum with a link to the youtube video if you're interested)

Anyway, thankfully, the drifting conditions finally started cooperating and we started a steady pick of keeper fluke (along with a steady snagging of bucktails...oh well gotta pay the piper i guess)

By 4pm we had loaded up our cooler with 7 small/average sized keeper fluke, our limit of nice seabass and a bunch of decent porgy. Fluke were hitting the bucktails homemade and spro and teasers green, pink, and sea robin colors. We were pretty satisfied and it was late so we called one last drift...

The bite was weird all day and the fluke many times would just kind of be on, almost feeling like a snag for a second so at this point when my jig brushed up on a snag i was a little twitchy...I gave it a split second and thought it felt like a fish so i absolutely buried the hook into it....SNAG!

We call it a day and swing the boat back around to pop the snagged jig out before leaving instead of just breaking it off. I can't get it out so i just give it a straight back pull to break it and as it pops the rod starts thumping heavy! It was a fish, a strong fish! I'm hooked up to something heavy, it's thumping just like a fluke...EPIC ending to the day i'm thinking as i'm fighting the fish to the surface slowly. Arty and John eagerly awaiting with the net the fish comes up next to the boat....and it's a damn silver eel!....FML hahahahaha still a memorable ending i guess albeit disappointing

OH...and here's me with a sweet ass photo bomb on john HAHAHAHA
