So reading all the posts about the pike being caught I decided I had to hit the river and give it a try myself. I loaded up the kayak and ventured out for my 1st Passiac river trip. The river was pretty shallow in the section I fished but I did manage to land one small pike (just over 24") on my second cast. Nice healthy looking fish that was quickly released to grow bigger.
I then hooked into a much bigger pike that was holding tight to a downed tree. I started drifting into the tree so I went to grab my paddle and as I did I must have let some slack in the line and the fish was off.
I hooked into another nice size pike that wrapped me around a submerged log and off it went too. The good news is that when the fish came off my lure came free.
I was pleasantly surprised how clear the water was and at the amount of fish & wildlife I saw. There were a lot of big carp swimming around, tons of bluegills and perch. Saw the biggest water snake I have ever seen swimming upstream near the bank.
I'll have to hit this river more and find some new locations.
