Upper Delaware river fish/float 11/5-6/17:
Kcritch and I rolled into Callicoon N.Y Sunday 11/5 7:30am EST. Once there we went to the Shell gas station (Lander's) for a hearty breakfast after the 2.5 hr. drive. At this point kcritch (Ken) realizes he forgot to purchase either a PA. or N.Y. non resident fishing license !!! Thank gawd we found out the Agway in town sold licenses AND was open at 8am on a Sunday morning.
Ken and I fished numerous spots along the Big D, Callicoon, Hankins and Kellams. Ken got a dink walleye at Kellams and I had a close call with a nice Rainbow. We went further up and fished a small stretch of the lower West Branch of the Delaware river that was still open to fishing because in boarders PA. I was able to get a decent brown and rainbow at the 191 bridge in Hancock. Tried one other spot on the WB, nothing. Time for steak and beers at McGees, formerly know as Lydia's. Smith's Colonial Motel for a nights rest.
The weather forecast for Monday 11/6 was questionable and looked rather unfavorable for an 8 hour float trip so myself, Ken and the guide all agreed on a half day float trip. We floated a small section of the Big D just above Buckingham. It seemed like no sooner than we launched the drift boat we were into beautiful hard fighting Rainbow Trout !! We had a steady pick of fish for the entire 4 hour float trip. Weather cooperated for just about the entire trip except for a few rain showers toward the end and temps. held in the mid 50* range, not bad for November.
Final total was Ken with 4 rainbows 2 browns, the guide Evan with a few trout and a walleye and I got 4 rainbows 1 brown. We each caught a large fallfish (aka chub)
The weather for this upcoming Saturday (Nov. 11) in the Catskills is high temp of 31* and a low of 16*
***Remember this was Ken's 1st float trip on the Big D. and 1st Brown Trout ***
