Default Weekend Mixed Bag: Brown, Rainbows, Channel, Flathead

Friday 4/14/17:

Got out of work early, so I planned to spend a few hours catfishing on Friday night. Got out to the spot that I intended to fish, and there was already a group of guys fishing there. Unfortunately, high water meant that it would be very difficult to fish any of my other spots in the area. The guys were really nice and invited me over to fish with them. I ended up with a big channel around 10 to 12lbs. Called it a night early because I had plans to trout fish with my friend Saturday morning.

Saturday 4/15/17:

Met up with friend in the morning for some trout fishing. The action was good right off the bat, catching a bunch of the usual stockie rainbows. Then, I hooked into this pretty little football shaped rainbow. In the fast current, the little guy ran like a little rocket. Looked different from the others...maybe a holdover.

Decided to end the day at a different spot, and I'm glad we did. Caught another stockie before we got to the good spot. I was retrieving my lure when I felt a bump and saw a sizable swirl on the surface. I got him to eat after a couple of casts, and after a spirited fight on the ultralite, I netted a beautiful 16" brown trout to finish the day. After a quick picture, he was released.

Sunday 4/16/17:

After some family time for the Easter holiday, I headed out in the late afternoon looking for flatheads. I got set up early, and began the waiting game. Around 830, the drag began to sing on one of the rods. I quickly landed my first flathead of the season. Wasn't a monster, but definitely a solid fish. With work the next morning, I decided to call it an early night.
