Thumbs up Friday on the OE

Had a good time today on the Ocean Explorer. Dad and I were supposed to out on a charter but canceled due to weather. We kept our eye on the weather and besides being cold it was a very fishable day. Got to the boat nice and early and set up in the stern. Was like 15 degrees outside so it was super cold. We made our way to the first drop and started the day. I drop down and get a few scratches and a small hit but nothing really going for me so i put the roller skates on and made a move up the side. We had lots of space today to move around as there wasnt that many people crazy enough to be out there. I look back after i move and dad is hooked up. Gets the first keeper. I get a few shorts nothing special. So i made another move to the bow. Everyone was on one side so i went to the other and dropped my crab down. Get hammered. And just like that im on the score board. I get a few more shorts and followed by another keeper. Dad and I are tied at two now. Dad gets another one and i keep on feeding them and getting shorts. So we are on the last drop and Bobby is getting ready to pull the plug and head in. I drop down and get hung up and break my weight off. So i was like im not wasting my time running to the bad then finding a weight then running back to the front and re tying. So i grad this rod that i have had set up for jigging on my last 3 trips that i never used. We finished off the bushel we got so all we had left were some greens. I grab a green and snap its claws off and put it on the jig. Few taps on the top shell and i flip it out. Hits the bottom and im following it as it makes its way back towards the boat. I get hammered!! Lift for the sky and the fight is on. Im using one of my light fluke rod and reels. Awesome fight. I get it to the top and flip it in. I get my very first tog on a jig and it was a keeper!! Was so pumped. Then we hear 3 horn honks and we head in. Hell of a way to end it. I ended the day with 3 keepers and 10 shorts and dad had 3 keepers with 6 shorts.

Over all a fun and good day on the OE. Was cold but the ocean was flat.
