Hit the river from 9-2 today. Andy stopped by to chat for a bit before going to talk to Rutgers students about some ladder footage. My cousin Vinny, "SHUCKER" , showed up a short time after. We had lots of action with the Schoolie Stripers today but nothing over 16 inches. Average size was 8-12 inches with a few bigger fish in the mix. Fun on the light tackle. There was also some cocktail Green Carp and Smallies running with the future breeder Stripers. Ahhhhhhh, better than nothing!
Highlight of Vinnie's day was his first Northern Pike on a hand tied Shucker Jig! Good to see the little Northern in that area. Fish measured around 24 inches. Congrats on your first buddy!
The highlight of the day for me was a 22.5 inch river Eye that inhaled a swim bait. Good fight in the current, especially when your launching your jigs 1/4 mile to the other side of the river. Healthy looking Walleye but maybe a little on the skinny side considering how much bait there is in the river.
Steady catching for pretty much 4 hours straight. Tried throwing some big plugs and shads but nobody wanted my offering. Overall a really fun day on the "BIG R!!!"
TIGHT LINEZ!!!
P.S. The river dropped quite rapidly while I was there. Should be back to its normal level sometime tonight.....
