Smile Found Where the Pike Have Been Hiding

During the week last week, I managed to hit the river twice, and caught 2 pickerel each time. Not exactly the toothy critters I was looking for, but it was nice to have some action and land my first river pickerel.

This weekend was some of the best PR fishing that I've ever had. I managed to land around 10 Pike over the course of 2 days and had a few others that spit the hook. Most of the fish were in the mid 20's to low 30 inch range, with a few little guys thrown into the mix.

The first spot I arrived at gave me a pretty cool surprise when I looked in the water. Those aren't logs... There's 6 pike in that hole.

These guys wanted nothing to do with me. They were more interested in hanging out and trying to keep cool than my lure. I think this guy knew what I was up to. He just sat there smirking at me.

After watching them hang out in the shallows, I moved on to another spot where I started finding some more hungry fish.

Day 2 was just as successful and fun.

Kinda bummed that some of the pike picked up leaves during the landing process, but it couldn't be helped since the leaves got in the net when I scooped them up.

Just a reminder that if you're fishing for these guys during the summer, keep them out of the water as little as possible, and make sure that you take your time to revive them. I keep the fish in the net while I unhook them, take them out for a quick picture, and then let them rest up in the net for a minute before sending them on their way
