Central Jersey Report 8/30/15
Left my house at 3:45am today. Drove almost a hour east to this bait hole I used to know about. It was pretty dried up but I did manage a half dozen creek chubs between 6-8" Next was the hour drive north to the river. I got there just as the suns was up. I flipped over some rocks for some crayfish and off I went. I put the biggest crawdad I had on my ultra light (4 #)and the two biggest chubs on my bait runners( 1 with 12# and 1 with 8#). On the first drift, the rod with the chub went under the boat. I reeled in the slack and set the hook on a beautiful 18" smallie. I never expected to see a smallmouth eat a 8 inch creek chub. So as I'm reeling in the ultra light , a muskie swims right under it at the boat. Then the baitrunner with 12# goes off , I set the hook and got a half of creek chub back. Muskie again! Then I got a nice channel cat on the other rod that weigh just under 7 lbs. By the time I had both rods out again , they both had big channels on. By the time I landed both fish we were a couple hundreds yards down river and my buddies bait gets bit off. Another muskie?? We far from the other muskie bite off but could have been the same one. I just glad they didn't get the hook. After catching two more channels I was out of catfish bait so I switched to smallmouth. Ended up with 14 smallies on chubs, crayfish, crawlers and plastic swimbaits. Got back home at 4pm.
