chris and kellen steskal 8/6/15 humble pie

capt's kevin gerrity and dave bender took chris and kellen steskal of chalfont, pa out to the hudson canyon for an overnighter. the trip was booked a while back as a day trip. when the trip was about a two weeks out i asked chris is there any way we could leave the afternoon before to lay overnight, as the trolling during the day was slow, but there were some yellowfins being chunked as well as bigeyes snapping after dark. well, as the trip came up the chunked yellowfins were gone and the bigeye bite had slowed considerably, but we went with a positive attitude. upon reaching the canyon i had several friends there who were there since the day before without a fish, not what we wanted to hear. we trolled all day in gorgeous conditions without a touch, there were two bigeyes caught at the tip, and a blue marlin here or there, but nothing else. as the sunset we had our hopes up for a bigeye blast, and a handful were caught or lost from about 7-830 but none for us. we set up on the chunk at about 11pm in hopes of perhaps a sword to salvage the trip, but not a touch. the seas picked up at about 3am as predicted and we trolled in sloppy conditions till about 7am and beat feet with our tail between our legs. chris and kellen stayed up all night with kevin and i, they cleared lines, put out the spread, chunked, etc. they woked their as##$ off. kevin and i were so bummed that these two young guys came up short. there's not much more i can say other than i'm sorry. it's been a very long time since this has happened to us, perhaps we've been lucky. we will get a weather break here for a bit and do our best to get back on the right path.my congradulations to the few boats that managed to get the bites, and stayed glued to some hefty bigeyes.
