Default mad gaffer fishing report friday 7/31

We were not scheduled to fish today, I was on my way down to the boat just to do some maintenance, When my phone rang. it was a fellow by the name of Bill Haas Statter, He and his family had been staying in Cape May and were on their way back to Newark airport to fly home to Ohio. They thought that they would hit a half-day boat but once they got to Belmar they found out they had all sailed. They got my name from the Internet and I wound up taking them out on a 3 1/2 hour fishing trip. They really needed to be back at the dock just before 12 noon. That didn't give me much time to go anywhere, So we opted to fish close by . their 11-year-old son Ryan and 8 1/2-year-old daughter Megan wound up catching 14 short fluke three keepers 60 sea Robbins and countless skates and other creatures of the deep. When I say the kids caught them , the parents caught some too but not as well as the kids . in our count of other creatures from the deep they included orange sea Robbins , one snapper blue , and a full-size blowfish which needless to say was the highlight of the trip . sunsets was nice enough to cook the keeper fluke so ,they had a nice lunch. It was nice to see people enjoy catching what we would consider to be not too much. Me thinks that we are a little jaded ,and that we've forgotten a portion of what this is supposed to be . I guess if you live in Columbus Ohio your opinions of the ocean are different. Anyway we have an open trip tomorrow ,we will be fishing for Ling cod, winter flounders , and bumping wrecks for big fluke. We have plenty of spots available, call for information and reservations.
